I have been interested in food culture and the creation of identity through food for a long time. My work explores this interest, emphasizing the specific customs of the place where I am living; previously Rome, Italy, and Bloomington, Indiana.
Serving Size: Specimens examines the food culture of the Midwestern United State. Each piece in the series contains one serving size of potato chips. They are presented as specimens or examples of how and what we eat. Each specimen is labeled with the brand, gram weight, and number of chips per serving. This draws attention to our increasingly manufactured food-scape and to how detached we are from what we consume.
