In Perpetual, I look at how the objects with which we interact daily both reinforce, and act upon, our identity and relationship to self. It is through objects that we express who and what we are. I am a swimmer. Bathing suits hanging in the bathroom have been a fixture in my life for as long as a I can remember. They are a constant reminder of that part of my identity. Yet, they hang in my bathroom, an intimate space. They are a reminder to myself and no one else; shifting as I move through moments in my life. In them, I have seen everything from pride and friendship, to hope and strength, and loss and doubt.
For these collagraphs the actual bathing suits are used as the matrices. This maintains the materiality and immediacy of the object while also allowing for transformation through process.
